Stella

Stella is a 32 year old female orca who lives at the Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium. She was captured from Iceland in October 1987.

Stella has had five calves and has been a great mother. She was the matriarch and dominant orca at Kamogawa Sea World, until she moved to Nagoya where she continued those roles.

Stella's first calf was Lovey who was born on January 11, 1998. Lovey has had two calves of her own now.

Her second calf was Lara who was born on February 8, 2001. 

Her third calf was Sarah who was born on May 31, 2003. Sarah died on April 26, 2006 just before her 3rd birthday from an unknown illness.

Stella had just given birth to her fourth calf, Ran 2, when Sarah had died. Ran was born on February 25, 2006 and was Stella's fourth daughter. She was Stella's only calf to move with her to Nagoya. Ran 2 moved back to Kamogawa on December 7, 2015.

She gave birth to her fifth calf Lynn, another girl, born on November 13, 2012. Bingo and Ran were present for the calf's birth. It was originally thought Lynn had been named Rin. 

Stella is a sweet and gentle whale. She did waterworks at Kamogawa, but they did not continue them at Nagoya. She has never shown any aggression to her trainers and is a very loving mother. After her grandson Earth moved to Nagoya in place of Ran, Earth and Lynn started performing in shows in the main pool. Stella didn't join them right away, but eventually was introduced to the shows.
